Registration between October 23 and October 30, 2017: $100

Please note: Parking will be available at the airport for the conference rate of $5. You'll get a voucher at the conference.

8 Minutes to Win It

Workshop attendees will be divided into tables of six participants and one agent and will have one session of eight minutes to discuss with the agent anything they want. During your eight minutes, other participants at the table will not be commenting, but are welcome to take notes. Your eight minutes can include your reading part of a work-in-progress, a query or a pitch. If you're an illustrator you can discuss a promo piece, a dummy, a work-in-progress or a portfolio. You can spend your eight minutes just asking the agent questions. But you're not limited to these suggestions. Just remember you need to leave enough time for the agent to give feedback or answer your questions!

During the periods when you are not scheduled for your 8 Minutes to Win It, you are free to meet with other event attendees for critiques and/or discussion.

Breakout: The Author/Agent Relationship
The author/agent relationship can be quite fraught. It’s not a marriage or a friendship—it’s ultimately a partnership. Ginger Clark will detail the various ways in which the relationship can stop working, and how to make sure you have a truly productive and valuable relationship with your agent.

Jennifer Laughran
Andrea Brown Literary Agency
Picture Book track

Jennifer-LaughranJennifer joined the Andrea Brown Literary Agency in 2007, after a long career working as a children's bookseller and buyer. She reps books for children and teenagers, and is drawn to unusual and unforgettable characters and vivid settings, whether realistic comedies or richly imagined magical adventures. However, the common thread in her favorite stories is an offbeat world-view. Jennifer adores simplicity, but she is not interested in the conventional, predictable, mechanical, gimmicky, or ordinary. Jennifer loves funny books, thrilling books, romantic books, books that make her cry, and all-around un-put-downable books…and her true favorites are all of the above.
