Hey, all you cool cats! Who’s up for a hotsy-totsy night of zooming around town?

(If by “night,” you mean early afternoon.)

(And if by “zooming around town,” you mean attending a Zoom webinar.)

Let’s face it. We’ve had a rough entry into this century’s “Roaring Twenties,” with canceled book events, the isolation of social distancing, anxiety over our loved ones and our futures, and more.

But that doesn’t mean that we have to lose our connections: to each other, to our work, and to the ecosystem of publishing and bookselling. On the contrary, now is an ideal time to explore all the ways we can still connect with each other. That’s why SCBWI PA West is proud to present…

The Roaring Twenties Virtual Bookstore Tour!

On the 20th of each month, starting on Monday, April 20, we will host a virtual tour of an independent bookstore in our region. Booksellers, providing tours through their currently quiet stacks and storerooms, will answer questions about the art and science of selling books and forge new relationships with writers and illustrators like you. If you hope to host your own book events in the future, your region’s local, loyal indies are the best places to start. Why not get to know these lovely booksellers from the comfort of your own home?

(Yes, comfort can absolutely mean pajama pants and the beverage of your choice.)

The first stop on our tour is City Books, Pittsburgh’s oldest independent bookstore. This local institution, in its new Northside location at 908 Galveston Avenue, primarily sells used books and offers several ways to connect with local writers, including an innovative¬†residency program with an upcoming deadline. Join our tour with City Books owner Arlan Hess on Monday, April 20, at 1 p.m.!

Each bookstore tour will take place as a Zoom webinar. Links will be emailed to registrants prior to the event. Registration is $5 per tour and will support a contribution to the hosting bookstore. Each tour will also include a door prize from that store: a gift card, shopping pass, merchandise, or something else that is truly the bee’s knees.
